Matthew Laws
Matthew Laws was one of the few we actually spoke with from the exhibitors at the RCA graduate show.
He had a very nicely wired and interesting, interactive Climate Change Calculator there.
He has amazing stuff on his site. Check it out.

“
Paludier is a premium salt shaker designed for the high end culinary market. It is the first salt shaker specifically designed to work with hand harvested salt called ‘Fleur de Sel’ and the ‘Paludier’ name comes from the french for ‘salt farmer’.
Materials and form were carefully chosen to reflect the high value of the salt which can cost up to £25 per Kilogram. This product design was approached holistically taking sales, marketing and packaging into account.
A total of 9 objects were produced leading to an emphasis on the manufacturing process throughout. Glass blowing, glass lamp working, glass finishing, polymer casting, CNC mould design, metal spinning and screen printing were all used.”
Imogen Luddy
Oh how surprisingly, awfully gorgeous this cross stitch table is in real life. Using a 16th century Italian lace as a starting point she created this laser cut stainless steel table top. Super tasteful. Playful. Witty.
The picture can not give back it’s nobility at all.
Imogen Luddy’s statement:
[Awards: The NEWH Scholarship]
“My textile practice spans wallpapers, fabrics, surfaces and desirable products for interior environments. Working across a wide range of media, including laser-cutting, embroidery, crochet and ceramics, I seek to find new and innovative ways of exploring traditional crafts.
Using antique lace, doilies and embroidered samplers as a starting point, the aim of my final collection is to subvert these traditional practices by ‘digitising’ their structures and reproducing them in unexpected materials.”
Fay McCaul
The most spectacular piece of the RCA Graduate Show.
“I have always been excited by the idea of a piece of textiles appearing one way in daylight and then transforming in the dark.
Inspiration has come from Tibetan flags; the way that bright material can look beautiful in an outside environment, and also from unusual forms found in nature.
With the use of lighting technologies and contemporary materials, I aim to push knitting into new realms by creating structures and fabrics that ‘play with light’, providing a unique and magical form of decoration for interior and exterior use.”
It looked, felt fantastic. I want one. No wait…two.

Very interesting work from RCA graduate Stuart McCaffer.
“The Older You Get The Less You Look Up”.
The street (pavement, road, signs, lamp) were actually on the ceiling. It was a great idea.

Jessica Reynolds
As an analyst I’m interested in infographics and data visualization. At the New Blood exhibition Jessica Reynold’s presented a hair chart showing hair import to the UK. The charts is actually made of human hair.
Spooky.

It’s All About Movement
Sarah Pritchard creates extraordinary rings. I want one obviously. No wait. Two! Endless games and fun plus a jewelery.
“It’s All About Movement” is a jewelery collection designed to capture the movement of the body, in particular the hands. Every twist, turn and twiddle the hands make, sends the chrome balls spinning. The collection is aimed at the inner child in all of us being reminiscent of puzzles we have all played with.”
